2010 BMW 5 Series Sedan

BMW has finally announced a price list for the 2010 5 Series, which was unveiled late last year.

Specifically, the BMW 5 Series Sedan will be available for sale in early June in three models – the 528i, 535i and 550i. The diesel version 520d will be available from September onwards.

The vehicle’s impeccable styling is reminiscent of its BMW genes. The aesthetic draws cues from the 7 Series styling and the 5 Series GT. The headlights are less upturned than that of the predecessor, while the taillights are similar to that of the 3 Series. The kidney grille has been revised; it is very similar to that seen in 7 Series models and the soon-to-be X1. Compared to the outgoing model, the 5 Series Sedan has a more brawny, chiseled and sporty aesthetic. BMW has described this revised style as “muscular”. The rear wheelarch is flared, while a bold character line carves its way from front to rear. The wheelbase is approximately 100mm smaller than that of its GT sibling and the 7 Series Saloon, however still measures in 100mm bigger than that of the Mercedes Benz E Class models.

Internally, there are a variety of luxury features. The centre stack is slanted in the direction of the driver, a common trait in both the 7 Series and 5 Series GT. Dakota leather upholstery adds to the luxury styling, while other features such as four-way electric adjustment for the driver and front passenger seats. The top trim also gets comfort seats with ventilation and heating, as standard.

The range of equipment is up to par. There is an iDrive system featured in the F10, a newly improved unit above that which debuted a year ago in other series. Active Cruise Control incorporates the Stop-and-Go feature, which might appeal to some. Standard safety is all that you might expect – front, side and side-curtain airbags, seatbelt pretensioners and force limiters, and active head restraints.

In terms of the drive, the 5 Series Sedan delivers with its 528i inline six petrol engine and can produce 190kW and 310Nm of torque. With regard to fuel efficiency, this vehicle isn’t so bad – fuel consumption is supposed at 8.0 l/100km or 5.2 l/100km for the 520d. The entire 5 Series range meets Euro V emissions standards. The top trim 550i Sedan features a twin-turbocharged 4.4 litre V8 engine that produces an impressive 298kW – the same engine seen in the X6, 750i and 550i Gran Turismo. The takeoff is fast too. According to the automotive brand, the 550i manages 0-96km/h in just 5 seconds.

Standard transmission for the series will be eight-speed automatic. Australians will not be offered the option of a six-speed manual transmission – for now anyway. Optionally though, the 535i and 550i can be purchased with Adaptive Drive – which incorporates Driving Dynamic Control and Active Roll Stabilisation. Other standard features include multi-link suspension and Active Front Steering, whereas Active Rear Steering and counter-steering are optional extras.

Pricing List:
• BMW 520d – $83,300
• BMW 528i – $99,900
• BMW 535i – $128,900
• BMW 550i – $178,900
