Well it was rated the “best selling Car in Europe”. I traded in my 2009 Golf for the 2010 model recently and have noticed that functionally – the 2010 model is almost identical to the 2009 version but visually its quite different.

Agreed Denzel88, but not the cheapest option as it is an import. I’d suggest shopping around and doing some more research on the safety ratings of various models before you make a decision

I own a GTI – the 4 cyl engine is much more powerful than I expected when I first bought the car, especially considering its a front-wheel drive vehicle. Surprisingly, I can make tight turns with absolute ease which is good as I’m a bit of a leadfoot on the road. Nevertheless, I know that I will be safe in case I do crash. In regards to Stephen’s comment – the Golf is probably the best option for your daughter as it is one of the safest cars on the market, but its fuel economy is ideal for young budget-conscious drivers!

Personally Im a fan of offroad 4WD’s that can handle the tougher terrain, but my wife loves the Golf. She currently drives a small Mercedes but took the Golf for a test drive recently at a local dealership. She is now adament on purchasing this vehicle, primely because of the good fuel economy, but also because of the safety features and modern overall look.

Stephen, Volkswagens are the most reliable and safest cars on the market, safer even than Volvo’s. I would feel comfortable with my daughter driving one (if I could afford one). Good luck!

As a father of three teenage girls, I would feel comfortable having my daughters driving this vehicle. My eldest daughter recently obtained her license and we have been looking for a safe car. I was thinking of purchasing a Volkswagen because I had heard they are very safe cars. Would anyone know how these cars perform in a front, side or rear accident??

I really like the new look of the new model Golf, its slightly more sophisticated. A friend of mine recently bought a white one, and its interior is equally as sheek and modern. I definitely prefer the revised interior/exterior look of the new model compared to the previous model.
