BMW Australia has officially launched an interactive speed limit system into its already dynamic range. The information system employs a head-up display alerting drivers to the speed limit in that specific location.
From the end of the year, the new system will become a standard feature fitted in the 760Li, 750Li and 750i models and will collaboratively operate with the current Navigation System Professional. BMW will also offer the system as an additional option with other models from its 7-series and 5-series ranges. The added option will set buyers back $700.
According to brand spokespersons, the system operates via a rear internal camera, which observes road signals, signs and speed limit indications. Given that there are road signs, the system is even adaptable to zones with provisionally modified limits (i.e. school zones or road works).
The innovative system is unprecedented in the Australian automotive market, and according to Managing Director Stavros Yallouridis, the technology exemplifies the brand’s groundbreaking approach to technological solutions.
