And the rumours are true – BMW has publicly confirmed long-suspected suspicions that it will be launching a hybrid supercar in early 2013. The all-new “green” supercar will be inspired by the Vision EfficientDynamics concept and follows a recent teaser campaign.
An expected 3-4 second sprint rate is common to most supercars, however the new hybrid is allegedly more on par with its M6 Coupe counterpart’s abilities – about 4.5 seconds.
Albeit the hybrid supercar will have an exceptional emission rate, it won’t come cheap. Much to the relent of Australians, pricing is set to be around the Rolls Royce mark, meaning this one could set you back a hefty half-million dollars, potentially more. Sheesh.
Surprisingly, production won’t be impossibly exclusive or limited. According to spokespeople, the brand wants to create a “market presence”.
Though other details have not been released, reports out of Europe imply an output around 265kW and 800Nm of torque.
The imminent supercar will eventually race off against its rivals, the Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell, and Audi e-tron.
