August has been a great sales month for the new motor vehicle segment. Sales figures for the month broke a three month drought characterised by falls, and furthermore, remained well above figures for the same month in the previous year.

Recent data cultivated by the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed that almost 85,000 vehicles were sold in August, indicating a 0.3% improvement from July figures which dropped 2.6% on a seasonally adjusted basis.

When compared to August last year, the sales result was a 10.5% improvement.

The data, which was released last Wednesday, resonates earlier monthly industry figures which reflected a strong upward sales trend. Moreover, spending on vehicles also sharply augmented in the second quarter of 2010, helping contribute to the swift economic improvement of 1.2% for that period .
