MINI John Cooper Works Clubman

Individuality is a definite with the new MINI John Cooper Works Clubman despite the similarity with its siblings, the hatch and cabrio. It is a great car to zoom around the city or suburbs in and if a few small faults are not a problem then it is a fun and expressive car.

There are a few new features added to the vehicle and some include new LED tail lamps and interior design.

The MINI has a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is able to give 155kW/280Nm which allows the car to go from 0 to 100km/h in just 6.8 seconds. With a six-speed manual gearbox, and electrical assisted power steering, it is a very responsive car for this class. However, there is often an amount of under steer if a turn-in is left too late.

Unfortunately the ‘Clubdoor’ is back once again which lets rear seat passengers get out of the car onto oncoming traffic instead of on the curb. The seatbelt is also hazardous the people getting into the back of the seat and causes the driver to reach back uncomfortably to reach it.

As it may be already obvious by looking at the exterior, there is also little leg room in the back seats. Driving the MINI might also require glasses as the mini speedometer only takes up a small portion of the dashboard, therefore making it almost impossible to read the speed accurately. However there is a digital repeater, so blaming speeding on the tiny speedometer is not an option.

Despite the faults of the Clubman and the sizable purchase price, there is still a group of fun-loving, carefree buyers that would have a ball driving it.
