NSW Speed Camera’s Audited

Do safety cameras really improve road safety? Or are they simply giving the Government extra money? In NSW they are preparing to audit all cameras including 172 fixed cameras, six mobile cameras and 60 safety cameras.

Premier Barry O’Farrell has decided to conduct this audit to answer the concerns from NSW motorists that the only party who benefited from these cameras was the previous government.

Mr O’Farrell stated that he would get rid of any cameras that does not improve safety on the roads, but will keep the other cameras as he believes they do help stop driver misbehaviour.

The audit is going to take about three months to complete and will hopefully “remove scepticism and cynicism about this issue.”

It will also help “to ensure motorists know whether or not cameras are delivering better road safety.”

This audit was also one of the election promises Mr O’Farrell said.
