Renault-Nissan Signs Deal with Chinese Auto Company

Following a signed deal between Renault-Nissan’s electric technology company ‘Better Place’ and China’s largest carmaker/exporter (worth $1.25 billion), electric car charging networks are set to enter the Chinese market.

Better Place spokespeople recently announced the deal with Chinese company, Chery Automobile, promoting its intentions to collaborate on electric vehicle technologies. Under the official agreement, the two companies will converge and develop switchable battery electric vehicle prototypes in the hope of safeguarding a network of charging stations for electric vehicles. According to Better Place, the ultimate goal underpinning the agreement is the endeavour to make batteries more accessible to Chinese customers.

Through collaboration, the joint team has developed convenient, efficient and rapid battery exchange stations and are currently building other networks globally, such as in Denmark, Israel and Australia.

In 2009, China replaced America as the world’s biggest automotive market with Chery sales accounting for 500,000 vehicles sold.
