SLS AMG, Mercedes-Benz Australia announces pricing

The official pricing schedule for the latest Mercedes-Benz model SLS AMG has recently been announced by Mercedes-Benz Australia. A contemporary elucidation of the brand’s classic Gullwing, the SLS AMH will sport a hefty price tag of $464,000, not including the dealer delivery fees and other on road charges.

Further to many Australian customers’ dismay, other additional charges such as GST, the Luxury Car Tax, registration, stamp duty and CTP are likely to elevate the overall cost to over half a million dollars. With the long list of costs and charges, the final driveaway price excluding any additional options, could seem excessive to many Australian buyers.

Arguably however, sources claim the hefty price tag is surprisingly apt. Paying remarkable homage to its iconic predecessor, the 300 SL, the super sports car is the first and sole vehicle independently developed by the Mercedes-Benz performance branch. Furthermore, this modern interpretation is similarly expected to follow in the 300 SL’s footsteps as a highly collectible asset.

Those deterred by the price may draw consolation from the exceptional drive the SLS AMG offers. Combining its lighter weight with an impeccably tuned V8 engine, the vehicle delivers an impressive power-weight proportion of 3.86kg/kW. Channeled rear-wheel power is conveyed via the ‘Speedshift DCT’ 7-speed sports transmission. This feature accommodates brisk gear changing without the loss of traction and force. Top speed is electronically constricted to 317 km/h, though this powerful vehicle is undoubtedly capable of much more power. Performance figures indicate this car is capable of reaching 100km/h from a standstill, in only 3.8 seconds. Such a feat seems almost unbelievable. But believe it, or if you can afford the price ticket, experience it for yourself.
