Automotive juggernaut, Volkswagen Motors has now publicly revealed that its production model, the ‘Volkswagen Up!’, will make its initial debut at next year’s Frankfurt Automotive Show. The imminent event is planned for some time in September 2011, and will showcase the production version likely to be named the ‘Lupo’.
The German automaker has strategized a multi-platform foundation for the Up! (a.k.a Lupo), of which includes sedan, five-door, and mini-van variants, as well as several engine choices. The brand has also alluded to the possibility of a 2013 electric version. Until then, VW punters can also look forward to the additional three-cylinder diesel and petrol versions that will be on offer.
Many industry sources expect fellow German rival, Audi, will follow suit and create a similar electric version.
Though official specifications and pricing have not been publicized, the miniature vehicle that is set to go on sale shortly after the show, is expected to be reside comfortably within the $15,000 category Down Under. Although subject to various import taxes, the price should only be marginally higher than the exchange rate conversion.
Delivery time is expected to be around late 2011, following a heavy production run at the company’s Slovakian plant.
